We’re all aware when it concerns the Oculus Storefront and its rigorous curation. This is how we maintain the quality of games and apps high, and prevent poor-quality apps from getting past. This also makes it difficult for independent developers to release their VR content on the Oculus platform.
To combat this, Oculus recently introduced a brand new program called “App Lab” to give independent developers an official space to publish their VR content without going through the rigorous curation process of the Oculus storefront. The App Lab is very similar to the Oculus storefront. You can browse and download apps exactly as you do in the traditional virtual storefront. But, it’s less than curated.
If your app performs well in the App Lab it could be promoted to the Oculus Storefront and gain more visibility and reach a larger audience. This is not solely based on download numbers browse around here but also retention metrics, long-term profitability, the teams working on development as well as other factors.
App Lab is a great way to experience the full spectrum of Oculus Quest applications. There are a variety of enjoyable games and experiences, including well-known non-games such as Tilt Brush which turns your headset in to an immersive art studio. There are a lot of amazing VR media apps such as Quill Theater, which showcases the amazing community-created movies and animations in 6DoF.
